Summertime is here, and as the weather heats up and the sunshine takes over, that means a lot of things. From vacations to sports to just hanging out at home, there are plenty of summertime activities that are on the horizon for most of us.
However, one thing that is important but often overlooked during the summer months is the health and wellbeing of your feet. Summer can throw some challenges at them, and it’s important that you make sure you’re taking care of them in the best way possible.
There are a couple of primary enemies of foot health during the summer months – wounds, and moisture. Taking a look at them can help you keep your feet as healthy as possible.
Wounds
Injuries can come in a lot of forms, but one of the primary issues with foot health is that of blisters. Developing blisters can be painful and reduce your mobility, but it can also lead to potential infection – especially in diabetics.
To reduce the chances of this occurring, it’s a good idea to wear comfortable shoes that fit properly and to use socks for blisters that provide additional protection against the formation of blisters of any kind.
Moisture
Moisture is an issue because it increases the chance of bacterial and fungal growth on the feet. In the summer months, the higher temperatures mean that sweating of the feet is very common. That sweat can cause bacteria growth that leads to potential infections and smelly feet.
Good moisture wicking socks can reduce this issue, drawing sweat away from the feet and reducing the development of bacteria in the process.
Protecting your feet is important, and not as difficult as you might think. Pay attention to your footwear and in particular your socks this summer and you will be able to keep them feeling great and smelling better.
