Why Are Blisters Dangerous To Those With Diabetes?

Blisters can be common in all individuals, and someone without diabetes can find themselves with a blister on their foot just as likely as someone who suffers from the disease. Where those with diabetes have a higher susceptibility, however, is through nerve damage, and while someone without the disease may feel a blister coming, the numbness of diabetes may disallow this feeling for others. Without the feeling of an impending blister, one will continue to walk on the area without knowing the damage they’re doing, and this can lead to a dangerous situation where a more hazardous scenario may play out.

Blisters are excellent hosts to infection, and their shape, location, and make-up make them excellent ways for unwanted debris or bacteria to find its way into the body. A blister on the foot, for instance, when opened, can attract and collect just about anything your feet may come into contact with on the ground, and this can lead to unwanted materials entering the body rather easily. For those with diabetes, this can pose more of a thread than to those without, which is why it’s important that they have the socks they need to keep them protected.

Why Are Blisters Dangerous To Those With Diabetes?

Those with diabetes have a more difficult time fighting off infection safely and effectively than those without, so any infected blister will be exponentially more serious in severity. With the right pair of diabetic socks, however, this can be helped immensely, as they can avoid the predicament of blisters altogether. The right pair of diabetic socks will have the moisture wicking properties to help to prevent blisters from occurring, as well as the right fit to stop improper rubbing on different areas of the foot.

For those who spend a great deal of time on their feet and happen to be diabetic, diabetic socks can be the one thing separating you from letting loose and enjoying your day, and finding yourself in a situation where you’re battling with a pesky blister. With the right socks, the worry of blisters can be a thing of the past, and the risk of battling an infection along with it!
